Total Lunar Eclipse June 2011 not visible in US

From start to finish, people under the United States skies will not be able to watch how the earth’s shadow blocks the moon on Wednesday.

People from Canada are also not permitted by the weather to watch the central total lunar eclipse. The eclipse will be visible from eastern Africa, central Asia, the Middle East and Western Australia.

“This month's full moon will start moving into the central Dark part of the Earth's shadow, known as the Umbra, which is relatively rare,” states in ibtimes.com.

For people from the U.S., they can only be able to witness a total lunar eclipse on April 15, 2014.  The most recent last total lunar eclipse visible from the U.S. happened last December 21, 2010.

According to National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the upcoming total eclipse on December 10 this year will be best seen in Asia and Australia. It will be visible to only some parts of the US such as Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest.

The entire eclipse on Wednesday will last a little over 5 1/2 hours. Lunar eclipses are safe to watch with the naked eyes.

People from Europe will miss the first part of the eclipse since it will occur before the moon rises. People in the Eastern Asia and Eastern Australia will not be able to see the final stages which will happen after the moon sets. The moon will be visible to parts of South America but the moon will be entirely shrouded.

The total eclipse phase will be longer than usual because the moon will pass close to the center of the Earth's shadow, informed NASA eclipse expert Fred Espenak at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland.

Reports say that the last lunar eclipse closer to the center of Earth's shadow occurred on July 16, 2000 and it lasted for 107 minutes. On July 27, 2018-six years from now, the next central total lunar eclipse will happen.

Because the eclipse will not be seen from the U.S., Keith Gleason, who runs the Sommers-Bausch Observatory in Boulder, Colo., is disappointed. In December 21, 2010, 1,400 people showed up at his observatory to witness the spectacle that coincided with winter solstice.

People from the U.S. will then wait for 2014 to see the celestial treat.

Apple's Next-Gen MacBook Airs Are in Production

Apple will start its production of next generation MacBook Air notebooks this month with its Asian manufacturers, a report confirms.

The report from Taiwan Economic Daily says that the revamped MacBook Air notebooks will begin selling in late June. It further states that it has an initial shipment of 380,000 units.
However, Apple cannot say the exact sell date.

AppleInsider first divulged that Apple had placed orders for 380,000 Sandy Bridge-based MacBook Airs this month. Economic Daily says when the shipments of the new MacBook Airs are combined with shipments of the existing model, 460,000 units are expected to be produced this month.

It is also held that Apple plans to end the production of the current MacBook Air model this month with a final run of 80,000 units.

Appleinsider.com states:
“The new MacBook Airs set to go into production this month will move to to Intel's 32-nanometer Sandy Bridge architecture, with the chipmakers' latest ultra-low-voltage Core i5 and Core i7 chips. With the upgrade to Sandy Bridge, which sport between 3MB and 4MB of Smart Cache and support a theoretical maximum of 8GB of internal system memory, the mid-2011 MacBook Airs will jettison two-year-old Penryn-based 45-nm Core 2 Duo chips found in the current offering.”

“It uses a solid state hard drive which doesn’t spin like a typical disk drive, allowing the notebooks to be made much slimmer than a typical laptop, and also an order of magnitude faster,” describes iphoneipadipod.com.

In a note from Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the analyst said that 55 percent of these new models will be 11.6-inch versions and the rest will be 13.3-inch models.
In March, Kuo told AppleInsider that Apple shipped about 1.1 million of the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air laptops in the last three months of 2010, making it Apple's most successful Mac product launch.

Meanwhile, a Japanese blog revealed in May that Apple was testing MacBook Airs with an A5 chip inside.
Reports say that Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, noted that MacBook Air is one of the reasons why Apple was successful in the market, making the company ahead of its struggling rivals.

“Even though the technology inside current MacBook Airs is incredibly outdated compared to its MacBook Pro breathren, the premium-priced notebooks have been a boon for Apple,” claims pcmag.com.

The MacBook Air was launched last 2001 and is the lightweight brother of MacBook and MacBook Pro notebook.

NBA Finals 2011

The 2010-2011 championship series of the National Basketball Association made Dallas Maverick the latest champion of NBA after the team defeated Miami Heat, 4-2.
“Under a 2–3–2 rotation, the Miami Heat had the home court advantage; the Heat hosted Games 1, 2, and 6, and was set to host a deciding Game 7, had one been necessary. German player Dirk Nowitzkiwas named Finals most valuable player. Nowitzki was the second European to win the award, after Tony Parker (2007),” states in Wikipedia.

This triumph, which was televised in the US through ABC with Mike Breen, Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy announcing, makes Texas to have produced three teams in the NBA championships. The other two teams are Houston Rockets that won in 1994 and 1995 and San Antonio Spurs that won in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007.
Since its start in 1947, NBA Finals is being played by winners of Western Conference Finals and Eastern Conference Finals  during June of the year. The winner of the championship round is presented with Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy.

Los Angeles Lakers won in 2010 and in 2009, with Kobe Bryant as the most valuable player for two years. In 2008, Boston Celtics won over Los Angeles Lakers; Paul Pierce of Boston was the named MVP.
“Since 1985, the winner of the NBA Finals has been determined through a 2–3–2 format. The first two and the last two games of the series are played at the arena of the team who earned home court advantage by having the better record during the regular season.”
The series was named the “NBA World Championship Series” until 1986.

Nintendo U Wii Motion

Nintendo Wii Play Motion, a collection of 12 MotionPlus-enabled mini-games, will be released on June 13 in North America and June 24 in Europe, and buyers are required to buy Wii Remote Plus controllers separately.

For the game overview, Nintendo website states “Twist, turn, and move like never before with fun, motion-controlled experiences that come bundled with the Wii Remote™ Plus controller!”

“Grip it like an umbrella, and tilt it around your body to ride gusts that blow you up, down, and to the finish line of a windy race course, or hold the controller like a mallet to strike pesky vermin from stealing vegetables from your garden.”

The website says that players can even point the controller around the room to help find and capture invisible spooks. The game can be played by up to 4 players, added the website.

“No matter how many people are going hands-on with the controllers, everyone in the room can participate in the fun of Wii Play: Motion! Games offer rich single-player experiences and even better multiplayer fun. Master the easy-to-pick-up controls and share the fun with others!”

The upcoming party-video game is a sequel to the 2006 game Wii Play, which is a part of the Wii game series. Like its predecessor, the new game features playable characters.

Reports from joystiq.com reveals:
“There's a game in which you fly around using an umbrella in strong wind; one called "Spooky Search," which makes use of the Wiimote speaker (to locate ghosts in your room); a stone-skipping game; and a sort of "Human Tetris" scenario in which you pose a Mii to fit through Mii-shaped holes in the wall. There's also a side-scrolling minigame about guiding balloons through mazes, something diving-themed, and a spacecraft flight game.

The predecessor featured only nine hundred games.
