New Android Apps

Google’s Android Market launched new applications, adding to its more than 150,000 app offers. One of the newest app is “LeafSnap” that allows users to identify trees by taking a picture of leaves. This app was created by researchers at Columbia University, University of Maryland and the Smithsonian Institute.

Below are some of the newly-launched app offers:

“Seamless” lets users play music. ”FavFriends” is a new way to keep with Facebook friends. “Hype Machine Radio” allows users find new music from undiscovered and indie artists. “Voice Brief-Lite” reports schedule, news and social networking sites alerts. “Trover” offers photo-sharing and social networking services.  “DOL-Timesheet” helps employees track the hours they work and account for payments. “i3D” tracks a user’s head movement using iPhone or iPad. “do@” revolutionize mobile search. “Meporter” is a location-based new app for citizen journalism. “Tracks” is a photo-sharing app for private sharing. “Mixcloud” provides streaming podcasts, DJ mixes and radio shows. “ooVoo Mobile” provides with video calling platform. “Songkick” tracks concerts and alerts from bands. “Goodreads” is a social book discovery and sharing site. “SPB Shell 3D” and “Regina 3D Launcher” are new home-screen replacements. “White House” gives updates on the activities inside the U.S. presidential residence. “Hacker’s Keyboard” is designed for use with SSH and is for advanced users. “ShakeCall” lets users to answer incoming phone calls by shaking their phone. “Cardcloud” converts LinkedIn profile into business card. “Seesmic” is a third-party Facebook, Twitter and social networking app created to support Instagram and Salesforce. “Newsy” is a news aggregator that keeps up with daily news and video from multiple sources.
Google announced that 400,000 new Android devices are activated every day and more than 100 million have been activated.

According to mobile app security company Lookout Mobile Security, Android should outnumber programs for Apple’s iOS devices by mid-2012. Currently, Apple has 400,000 iOS offerings.
