The Book of Mormon, the Broadway debut of South Park‘s Trey Parker and Matt Stone, received more limelight when it swept nine awards during the 2011 Tony Awards last Sunday.
Other top winners were “War Horse” with 5 awards, “Anything Goes” with 3 awards and “The Normal Heart” with 3 awards.

For the special awards category, Athol Fugard and Philip J. Smith were awarded the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. The Regional Theatre Tony Award was given to Lookingglass Theatre Company (Chicago). Eve Ensler received the Isabelle Stevenson Award while Handspring Puppet Company got the Special Tony Award. The Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre was given to William Berloni, The Drama Book Shop, Sharon Jensen and Alliance for Inclusion in the Arts.
