A US helicopter crashed in Afghanistan on Saturday, August 6, 2011 killing 31 people which includes Seven Afghans and 31 US soldiers.
The helicopter was taking the soldiers back to their base after an operation when rebels destroyed the massive double-rotor transport helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade.
The Taliban claimed they had downed the helicopter with rocket fire while it was taking part in a raid on a house where insurgents were gathered in the province of Wardak, according to the office of the Afghan president, Hamid Karzai. The Islamist group said eight of its fighters had been killed in the fighting.
