Elizabeth Smart signs as commentator on ABC News

Was kidnapped and held captive for 9 months when she was 14, Elizabeth Smart could be on the air within the next few weeks according to an ABC rep.

Smart was held captive by a Salt Lake City street preacher for nine months at age 14. Joining ABC News as a commentator focusing on missing-person and child-abduction cases, Elizabeth is expected to add insightful, invaluable perspectives of what families are going through and bring stories to life for viewers according to the network spokeswoman Julie Townsend.

Now, at 23, Elizabeth Smart will contribute across the network’s news programs like “Good Morning America” and “Nightline”. Smart’s spokesperson says Elizabeth wants to take the job so she can create awareness about cases involving missing children.
