Libyan Fighter outside Gadhaffi’s Stronghold

Fighters pushed to the outskirts of one of Moammar Gadhafi's last strongholds of support, setting the stage for possible clashes ahead of this week's deadline for loyalists of the ousted leader to surrender.

Saadi Gadhafi, one of Gadhafi's sons, told CNN's Nic Robertson in a phone dialogue that negotiations aimed at a truce had been going well, but that an "aggressive" speech broadcast by his brother, Saif al-Islam Gadhafi, a few days ago caused talks to break down. He said he saw no further point in negotiating and believes the NTC is ready to go into Bani Walid.

Abdallah Kinshel, the NTC negotiator, said the planned talks fell apart after local leaders refused to come to the chosen meeting spot -- a mosque outside of town -- and required the NTC fighters come into the town unarmed which the anti-Gadhafi forces refused.

Freddie Mercury in Google Doodle

Google doodles have been produced for the birthdays of several noted artists and and are also used to depict major events at Google, such as the company's own anniversary.
The latest Google Doodle pays tribute to Freddie Mercury, who would have celebrated his 65th birthday on September 5.
Mercury is referred to as "Britain's first Asian rock star". In 2006, Time Asia named him as one of the most influential Asian heroes of the past 60 years and was voted as greatest male singer in different polls.
Honoring the rock band Queen's lead vocalist, who battled HIV for years before dying on November 24th, 1991 at the age of 45, a video, which appears over the Google logo, features an animated tribute to Mercury, highlighting Queen's 1978 hit "Don't Stop Me Now."
